Good morning
added Sun September 27 2009 at 6:44 AM
The number one side-effect of going to bed early is waking up early.

I've been a night owl for a long time - for as long as I've been able to set my own schedule. But here I am... 6:20 am and I've been awake long enough to get sufficiently bored to write on my anemic blog. I like being awake at night so much more - when you get bored, you just drift off to sleep. In the morning, you get bored and you stare at the ceiling.

I don't even think that bored is the right word, since there are plenty of things I could be doing around the house. My site isn't the only thing that I've been ignoring. Maybe just lonely. But I was lonely yesterday, too and reasonably productive until I fell asleep at 7 or 8. Oops.

So you (the reader) don't really care about my sleeping habits. Well, not in specific at any rate. So why are you here? Probably because this is still on the front page a few months later and you're randomly checking up on me. Well, I'm okay. Really, I am.

My manager wants me to come up with career goals. What do I want to be doing 5 or 10 years from now? Well... uh... this. As much as the day-to-day can drag me down sometimes, I can't think of anything I'd rather be doing. Sure, I want to be doing bigger and better projects, but the downside of that is that I spend more time coordinating people and less time actually programming. I guess that the fear is that the more my career "progresses," the less time I get to spend solving interesting problems because I'll be spending all my time convincing others to solve problems.

How about personally... where do I want to be 5 or 10 years from now? Well... hmm... here? Okay, this one's a bit more obvious - I don't want to be alone like I am now, but I have all the worldly possessions I need. I have my car, I have my house... so now I just need to horde a bunch of money so that I can retire and live in peace, right?

I'm sure I'll keep spinning in the consumer rat-race for a bit longer. My projector is dying and I'd like to buy a new one, but I can't really justify the cost right now. As long as I'm at it, it would be really cool to have a nice surround-sound system for my home theater. Maybe some nice new furniture to have lots of friends come over and relax in front of a movie. But what I'd rather is a few friends who would even want to come over. Easy there - I know you're my friend. But everybody who reads this has their own life, their own thing to do.

The sun's starting to rise. I'm going to try to be productive. Hopefully I'll write something more interesting soon.

Good morning, sunshine.

"stare at the ceiling". ha ha ha! I hope that they send me to SC09. I think it'd be really fun to spend a day or two up there and hang out. Thanks for posting. I come here like every 20 mins to check if you've written :)

I wish Dave and I could come and hang out with you up there. We're thinking about making a trip up to Washington next summer, to see the coast, but it would be fun to hang out with you now!
