Friday Night Date Night
added Fri February 27 2004 at 9:22 PM
I didn't have anything planned for tonite. What's new, right? I've never been very good about remembering to plan something ahead of time. So I was trying to figure out what I should do this evening, talking to mom online, etc. I really wanted to go to a movie or *something*. Something out of the house, because sitting around here just gets me (keeps me) depressed.

I called the usual suspects... Merry's got a date, Rachel's up in SLC, Geneil's with her family for the weekend, same old story, different weekend. So, with much prodding from my mother person, I called Laura from my dance class. Cute little redhead girl. I had her number because we are partners for the upcoming competition. Convenient, if I do say so myself.

Called her up and asked her if she wanted to do something random and last-minute. She asked what, I suggested a movie that was scheduled to start in 30 minutes. And she said yes. Yes! I got directions to her place, got ready, and headed out in search of my car. I almsot got lost looking for her place (very confusing numbering system), but arrived at her door in one piece.

She was gorgeous as always, if you don't agree with me, then I don't care. She had just gotten home, so she took a minute to finish putting her stuff away and we headed out. Found out while driving there that she had a meeting at 9:30. Now, usually that sounds like a total brush-off, but for two facts. First of all, she's always incredibly busy. I would never survive her schedule. Second, if she'd wanted to use that as an excuse, she would've said no at the outset, and been perfectly justified in doing so.

The movie we'd agreed on was sold out. It could've ended right there. There weren't any other movies starting for another hour or so, and all the others had just started. Could've ended, but didn't. She suggested we catch one of the ones that had just started. Works for me, even though neither of them really sounded that great in the previews. Really, I just wanted to get out, and being with a cute girl was the bonus prize. So I asked the cashier which movie she recommended, and she suggested School of Rock. *Great* movie (four stars, at the very least), a considerable amount of swearing, but otherwise funny and cute and even has a decent message.

Now, this isn't going to be a happily ever after story... It's real life. I took her home, walked her to her door, and wished her luck with her study group. And that was it. But that wasn't it, totally. I like talking with her. She just has so much energy, it's amazing. She's such a girly-girl at times, yet at the same time, she seems to have a level head on her shoulders. And she smiles. And laughs. And gosh darnit, I'm in a good mood for more than an hour for the first time this month, so just smile and nod and agree that she's an amazing girl!

Now, I don't know if there will be more dates. I'm game for it, of course, but I'm not trying to jump ahead and pretend that there's a match made in heaven. I like this girl and the way she makes me feel, and right now, I'm just going to be happy with that. Cause that's one of the things I need right now. And for a little while, I was happy.

YESSSSSSSSSS!! Three cheers for little redheaded girls that can make my baby boy smile for awhile. Glad to hear that my prodding to go for it paid off big time.
