I love you, Amazon, but telling UPS that there's a shipment on the way does not equate with shipping the item. It's not just Amazon, though. It seems like lately every time I order something online, they tell me that it's shipped a full day before UPS, FedEx, or USPS actually claims to have received the item. I knew that they didn't actually ship the package last night when they first sent me the email. I doubt that they even had it packaged yet, although it's possible since they're gearing up for the holiday, maybe they do have people working on Sundays to push through the rush.

Perhaps I'm ranting at the wrong company, though - maybe the shipping company is just slow to update their data. However, I don't think that's the case because the data seems to be updated pretty quickly when the package is out for delivery or whatever. I can't recall ever checking the tracking number after I have a package in my hands to know if they update it quickly at that point. It's also entirely possible that companies have been doing this right along without us knowing, except that this online tracking information is so easy to see now, where it wasn't before. How often have you heard of people that claim "the check is in the mail"?
